Since we recently partnered up with Children’s Health and Comerica spreadin’ the Villy love to young troopers battling Cancer, we’ve had some very fulfilling experiences. To date, we have given away 8 Dream Bikes to the kids and I feel like so far we are 8 out of 8 on truly giving them a “once in a lifetime” surprise. They’ve all been happy campers. We have a wonderful group of kids, to say the least. As outsiders, we have no idea what these kids and their families go through, but very quickly you can see what is important. Hearing some of their stories makes me appreciate every day, so this has been a life changing experience for me. I’m so happy we get to give these guys a special day…and a special surprise.
Anyhow, a couple of weeks ago, we put a call out to our current group of Remarkable Ride winners (and their families) to team up and ride the Children’s Health Red Balloon Event 5K bike ride together. We figured it would be a great time and a great way to raise money for a good cause.
For our first year (and last minute notice), we had a great turnout (15 Riders) and we had a blast. We all got up early and met in the Parking Lot and started with Dunkin Donuts and coffee. We had perfect weather and it was great to see everyone pull up and excited for the ride. All the kids brought their Villy’s and Airion and I brought 8 extras out for some family members to borrow. We also hooked up all VILLY TEAM MEMBERS with our “Remarkable Ride” tee shirts. Cool bikes + cool shirts = awesome looking crew ;) ready to roll.
Lots of free exhibits, products, and food that corporations/organizations gave out before the ride. After hanging out for about an hour before the ride, we took off from the starting line as a group. Before you could blink, the kids took off and left all of us Adults in the dust. All good – glad to see they are all doing good and getting their energy back.
I got to give a big shout out to Thomas and his father Kelly, Thomas was going to lead the ride for us (cause he was so excited about it) but he had a relapse and could not make it. Man, we all missed you guys but we are holding your spot to lead the way next year….and we will have a much bigger TEAM so it’ll be even better next year!!!!
The Red Balloon Ride is a great event. I feel like we got to know the families and kids better. Next year, Villy Custom and Comerica are going to take this next level, so, if you are reading this and want to join our team next year…..Please mark your calendar for April 27th, 2017 and let us know so we can put you on the list and start sending you details. It’s a blast and you are giving back. Thank you to everyone who was a part of YEAR 1 – Our AWESOME Remarkable Ride Crew!
